Taking Tram 28 to Alfama is a must-do in Lisbon! Like San Francisco in the United States, Lisbon is a city famed for its historic, rattling tram lines. None are more iconic than Tram 28 which has been working its way up the steep, cobbled roads and into the old Alfama district for decades. The steep hills of Lisbon can make it more challenging to get around but these yellow trams provide an easy and scenic way to visit some of the cityβs most interesting neighborhoods and attractions.
Taking Tram 28 is also one if the best ways to visit Alfama, the most beautiful neighborhoods in Lisbon. Admire a small labyrinth of cobblestone streets, colorful houses, and some of the best architecture in Alfama at the end of your tram tour.
Traveling by tuk-tuk is one of the most popular ways for tourists to get around Lisbon. Wander through Lisbonβs Main Square. Praca do Comercio (Commerce Plaza) is Lisbonβs main square and formerly used to unload goods directly from the river. You will be able to freely enjoy your time here and get to see Fado nearby.
As a musical genre that can be traced back to at least as early as 1820s Lisbon. Fado is strongly associated with Lisbon and something that you need to experience on your trip. Just dance and sing with the Fado!
Together with Belem Tower, JerΓ³nimos Monastery is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most visited attractions in Lisbon. Belem Tower is a 16th century fortification thatβs often portrayed as a symbol of Europeβs Age of Discoveries. It was built to mark Portugalβs most glorious age which was called βThe Age of Explorationβ. It's highly recommended that one should visit Lx Factory, a co-op featuring a funky mix of shops, art galleries, restaurants, cafes, and bars. Thereβs a lot of great street art here as well. Itβs a fun place to check out on your way to JerΓ³nimos Monastery and Belem Tower!
