How To Prevent Blisters From Your Shoes

Most people have had at least one - or several - blisters at some point in their lives. Not only are blisters painful, but they also prevent you from doing the things you want to do.

For example, you’re much less likely to go on a long walk with your friends if your shoes give you blisters.

You’re also less likely to exercise, which can create further health issues.

In this article, we’ll take a quick look at what causes blisters and how to prevent them!

What Causes Blisters?

The main cause of blisters is friction. This means certain parts of your feet rub up against the inside of your shoe, wearing down the skin in an area until a sore or blister develops. Friction is most often a result of wearing shoes that do not fit properly or are made of tough, rigid material.

How To Prevent Blisters From Your Shoes

1. Wear Socks

Socks provide a layer of protection between your feet and the inside of your shoes. Instead of your skin rubbing against your shoes, the material of your socks will take on most of the contact.

When choosing a feet-friendly pair of socks, it’s best to stick with synthetic materials and avoid cotton. This is simply due to the fact that cotton absorbs moisture and moisture is another common cause of blisters.

Synthetic socks help keep your feet dry and blister-free!

2. Make Sure Your Shoes Fit Properly

One of the best ways to prevent blisters is to purchase shoes that fit properly.

This might seem obvious at first, but many people make the mistake of buying shoes solely based on how they look.

Yes, aesthetics are important, but so is comfort.

When shopping for shoes, be sure to ask about the fit. Each brand has a different design process which means a size from one brand might fit differently compared to the same size from another brand.

For example, due to UIN’s loose-toe design, we recommend people with thin feet purchase a smaller size than they normally would.

3. Select A Shoe Made From Flexible Material That Allows For Natural Movement

If your shoes are made from a rigid material, they won’t flex and bend with your feet on every step. This will create an excessive amount of friction between your feet and shoes.

On the other hand, if your shoes are made with soft, flexible materials, then they’ll be able to bend and flex naturally with the movement of your feet.

If your shoes and feet move together, then friction between the two will be limited.

4. Opt for Seamless Shoes

If your shoes fit well but you notice you’re still getting blisters, there’s a good chance it’s because your feet are getting pinched in the seams.

Some designs require different materials to be sewn or glued together during the manufacturing process. This creates a seam or cracks in the shoe. The problem is, these seams can pinch your feet.

Instead, opt for shoes made a one-piece seamless molding as this will completely eliminate pinching from seams.

5. Keep Your Feet Dry

Finally, keeping your feet dry will help you prevent blisters because it keeps your skin firm.

Moisture softens up the skin making it more susceptible to tearing and blisters when it comes into contact with the inside of your shoes.

Looking for Comfortable Shoes That Don’t Give You Blisters?

UIN’s range of footwear features an ethylene-vinyl acetate sole, specifically designed to provide a soft, elastic quality to every pair of shoes. This means the shoe mimics the natural movement of your feet, helping to prevent chafing and blisters.

Our shoes also have a seamless design which helps to prevent pinching from the seams - another common cause of blisters.

In addition, every pair of UIN footwear has a loose-toe design which gives your feet plenty of room so they don’t rub on the sides of the shoe.

Do the shoes/clogs have arch support?

Marian Feinberg

I need to return a pair of shoes, but please could you send me a mailing label so I can return them ASAP. Thank you!

Tessa Geary

I have flat feet and really have to have a good arch support. Do UIN shoes have that?

Charlotte Barber

I would like to purchase a pair for my daughter but I don’t see 11-12 shoe size in women. Will you ever make this shoe size for women and if not what is the equivalent in men?

Marilyn

I wear a size 11 in women’s shoes. Do you plan to make larger sizes? What. Is the male size equivalent?

Diane

Any plans to make larger sizes in women’s shoes? I want to buy a pair but need a size 12.

Terri

Do you ever have a sale on shoes? How do we access clearance shoes?

Bonnie Robinson

Hi,
I love your shoes and want to buy some. I don’t know if I can get a fit. I wear women’s size 11. I do not see that size. Are they available?

Lynn
